But there is nothing in that linked ABC news article (https://abc7ny.com/6306791) to suggest an increase in drug dealing, harassment, etc. It simply says that people are shocked to learn there are homeless people being housed in local hotels. Frankly, I can't see any reason why the OP even included this particular story in a response about an "increase in crime," since the story does not bear it out.
Using vacant hotels for housing during the pandemic is a great solution that is being tried not just around the US but in other countries. Typical dorm-style shelters do not allow for social distancing, it keeps a vulnerable population off the streets, and the hotel owners get the benefit of some income. |
