Eric Krebs is one of the great guys, and great mavericks of our industry. He brought the Donmar Warehouse production of Electra, with Zoe Wanamaker to Broadway in 1998. He opened it just six weeks after he saw it at the McCarter and decided to move it (along with Randall Wregghit and Anita Waxman).
It cost $600,000 to move, $800,000 capitalization including bonds, deposits, and reserve.. thats under $1 million in 2020 dollars. No other producer - NO OTHER PRODUCER - could have done this for less than the equivalent of $2 million. Eric knows how to avoid the useless m oney spent on most Broadway shows. ANd - oh yeah - the 116 performance run on Broadway earned $400,000 (about $750,000 today) in profits.
Kudos to Eric, wherever he pops up next |
