I too was bored stiff seeing THE WEIR on Broadway. I was seated in the balcony and could barely see or hear anything from the stage. It was just the wrong theatre for it. If you'll recall, Irish plays were hugely in vogue at the time, following the huge success of the Atlantic's production of BEAUTY QUEEN OF LEENANE, which transferred to Broadway. If a play had any kind of success in Dublin, it came to Broadway.
I later saw a more intimate production at the Arden in Philadelphia and enjoyed it much more, although this one is never going to be a favorite.
