Good catch, I never noticed that. Starting in 1987 The Piano Lesson was seen at Yale, the Huntington, and the Goodman, before opening on Broadway in 1990. So it seems like it was considered in regional theater and got a second bite of the apple when it hit NY...a little surprising.
