Composer Alan Menken on Sunday became the 16th person ever to achieve EGOT status. He joins the small group of entertainers who have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony award.
At Sunday's Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony (which focused on children's, lifestyle and animated programming), Menken won the award for best original song in a children's, young adult or animated program for Disney Channel's Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure. He composed the song "Waiting in the Wings," sharing the Daytime Emmy with lyricist Glenn Slater. The song was performed in the series by Eden Espinosa and Hudson D'Andrea.
This is not Menken's first Emmy, but it is his first competitive Emmy. He received an honorary Primetime Emmy in 1990 for his work on "Wonderful Ways to Say No" from Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue, an anti-drug special produced by the TV academy. |
