Alas, Fontana's name was not even mentioned, despite the fact that Skylar Astin participated and most of the cast talked about their experiences auditioning for their roles. Anyone would have thought that Astin had been on the show for its entire run.

It's a shame, because I think some discussion about how it was decided to bring the character back and recast the role would've been quite interesting.

There must have been some major sturm und drang over Fontana's departure and I'm kind of impressed that Rachel Bloom (or whomever) has managed to keep a lid on it all this time. It would have been so easy for Bloom to be magnanimous and acknowledge Fontana's contribution to the show's early success (and he certainly played a large part in that) that it makes it all the stranger that she seems to need to pretend that he doesn't exist. Otherwise, Bloom seems fairly humble and self-effacing, so it's an interesting contrast.
