An absolutely wonderful interview with someone as intelligent and caring as she is gifted as singer and actress.
I do think, however, that Sondheim's famous criticisms of the Porgy and Bess were--if I recall correctly after all these years--NOT about the production per se or the significant musical changes(which many people here have voiced)but about the change in the title of the show, specifically the omission of DuBose Heyward's major contribution, AND the remarks several people, including McDonald, were making about how their production, and with their Bess, was doing it right for the first time. Sondheim had seen the earlier productions and the actresses who were being so casually dismissed or forgotten.
Also, one small mistake by the interviewer: Will Swenson was not her co-star in the 2007 110 in the Shade. He was in the ensemble and understudied the Starbuck.
