So would Sondheim's critique have been more acceptable and less condescending in your eyes if the artists who took it upon themselves to make radical revisions to PORGY AND BESS had been male? Should Sondheim have softened his letter to the NY Times, or not sent it at all, BECAUSE the artists happened to be female? If Sondheim had written a similar letter about what Daniel Fish did to OKLAHOMA!, would you have found that letter less ugly and less condescending because Fish is male?
