If that's true, I've never heard that Prince had any involvement in PHANTOM as a producer. Certainly, he was more than "just a director," but I used that phrase to distinguish it from productions on which he was both producer and director. He may indeed have had all sorts of unusual things in his contract as a director and his dedication to keeping the production in top shape was admirable, but I find it hard to believe that Mackintosh and Lloyd Webber would give him any kind of control over the business of the production. The only listed producers of PHANTOM are Mackintosh and Really Useful.

If he were alive, I imagine he'd be among the first to get the news and, perhaps, he'd have been included in meetings where these things are discussed, but it appears to me that the final decision would rest only with Mackintosh and Lloyd Webber.
