Yes, I think you're right about that, and I think he was deeply offended by the fact that, in that NY Times piece, those interviewed were, from one perspective, expressing their disrespect for the work of this masterpiece's original creators. The piece read to me as if Sondheim was defending the integrity of those geniuses, and the work of DuBose Heyward in particular. |
