"Adolescent" is my term. Sondheim himself mentioned either the year or the production(or specifically Anne Brown)he saw. And yes, it was probably the 1942 revival or one that was soon after. I thought he said this in the now infamous Times letter--which I can't access now--but if it was not, it must have been right about that time. |
