Noah Reid played Chip in the Toronto production of Beauty and the Beast, which opened in July 1995 at the Princess of Wales theatre and ran for two years.

tedlefdes, thanks for that tidbit. In behind-the-scenes stuff on YouTube and elsewhere, Noah Reid makes it sound like he found it completely overwhelming to have to sing and dance at the same time. Although his appearance in a major professional production may have been many years ago, I think he's probably exaggerating a bit how challenging he found the experience to film one-and-a-half Cabaret numbers for Schitt's Creek. I was a little suspect already, because he's a professional musician who does concerts, so the idea of singing on stage isn't a new one for him.

Wikipedia says Noah got involved with theater at age 6, went to an arts high school and graduated from the National Theatre School of Canada.

Even though Noah's been onstage, I imagine it can still be a challenge to do ''Cabaret,'' especially if you don't consider yourself a dancer.

Also, singing onstage and just standing at a mike is still different than executing choreography and singing at the same time.
