I also have an Albee memory. I saw him in the audience of a reading at the O'Neill Festival. I wanted to say something, but also didn't know how to approach him. I heard he was not the friendliest sort. A few years later Arena Stage was doing an Albee Festival. On opening night I was about to go to my seat only to find that Albee was in my row and I had to walk right past him. I paused, told him I was a huge admirer, than handed him my program and said it would be an honor if he would sign it. He did and couldn't have been nicer. Only other celebrity I was similarly scared to approach was Paul McCartney, who was sitting down my row at the Greek Theater for a Paul Simon/Brian Wilson concert. Never did get that autograph, to my dismay.
