| I was saddened to hear this. It was so crazy having just seen him in Enter Laughing. And was talking about him to a friend and wondering what he was up to and researched it. Who knew that he would pass away a g couple of days later. As I was running the jo Anne Worley Fan club I used to spend so much time at the New Theatre at The Mad Show. (I know joAnne ages before this -and are still in touch). Reni Santoni took over the role from Paul Sand and we got to know him. I then saw him on things here and there that he did before relocating to California. | |

| Just watched him again in Enter Laughing on TCM. They showed it right after Carl Reiner passed. He is good in the role, but I always wonder how different it would have been with Alan Arkin who played the role on Broadway and won a Tony. First remember seeing Reni in a very small role in The Pawnbroker. Of course years later he became known to millions of Seinfeld fans as Popi. | |

| Yes, it would have been interesting to see Alan Arkin. But i appreciated RS more I think than I did when I last saw the movie years ago. He's quite funny, attractive, and self-effacing, and more than holds his own with all those other powerhouses in the cast. | |

| I believe it was in a thread here recently that people were mentioning some Italian actors who have successfully played Jewish, so for those who enjoy Reni Santoni's performance in ENTER LAUGHING, that would be another example. | |

| Alan Arkin was probably great on the stage, but he might have read as too old on screen for his role in "Enter Laughing". As it was, I think Santoni was about 27, and he was playing someone who was supposed to be about 18 to 20. I don't know if it's clear if he is a high school or college graduate, only that his mother wants him to be a pharmacist. I too watched the film this past week and was sorry to hear about Mr. Santoni's passing. Btw, Elaine May was really very pretty on screen in her role as Jose Ferrer's daughter! | |
