Billy Goldenberg might be best-known among Broadway buffs for writing the music to the multi-Tony-nominated ''Ballroom'' (1978), with lyrics by Alan and Marilyn Bergman. Dorothy Loudon first sang ''50 Percent,'' which Barbra Streisand recorded years later. His N.Y. credits also include writing dance arrangements for ''Let It Ride!'' (1961), ''110 in the Shade'' (1963) and ''Henry, Sweet Henry'' (1967). And he accompanied Mike Nichols and Elaine May (1960) and Bea Arthur (2002) on the Great White Way and wrote special material for ''An Evening With Diana Ross'' (1976).

Goldenberg racked up 23 Emmy nominations for his TV work and wrote the scores to ''Duel,'' ''Play It Again, Sam'' and ''The Last of Sheila.''

He also was the musical director of Elvis Presley's 1968 comeback special, and wrote classical quintets for woodwind and brass. What a life!
