With all due respect to Odom, and without judgement as to whether or not he was paid enough for the filming, the comparison to Tveit makes no sense.
GREASE: LIVE was an all-new production that was prepared strictly for that one performance. Tveit had to learn the role and rehearse for weeks before the night of the show.
Odom had already been paid to learn his role and rehearse the production, which he had been performing for months. And though there were extra filming sessions, much of the filming was done at live performances that he would have been doing anyway.

I believe Odom and most of the original cast had already been gone from HAMILTON for some time prior to the recording. So this wasn't a case of him getting paid more for a job he was already doing. This was an entirely separate job offer to return the show and recreate his performance for what they were terming a "movie," since it was to have been released theatrically.

Even though this is a performance that he'd already done many times, if he was away for any length of time (originally without any thought of returning), I'm sure there were some kind of rehearsals involved to get back into the groove. This may not have been a significant pull on Odom's time, but I also don't think he just walked in off the street, having been out of the show for a period of time, and hit the stage to give his performance.

All this is to say, that assuming the cast wasn't on a favored nations contract for this filming, why wouldn't he and his representatives want to get what they feel that he's worth to come back to the show? That's their job. If the powers that be didn't think he was worth it, they could easily have had their pick of actors playing Burr at that time on Broadway, on tour, or in London.

The only actor in the cast who returned for the shoot was Jonathon Groff. All of the others were in the cast at that time.

The film was shot in June 2016. Miranda, Odom, and others left in July 2016. Groff and 2 original ensemble members had left by April, but only Groff came back.

Ugly of him to use the term “white boy” and misleading to suggest that race accounts for the difference in their pay. I hope he was just speaking in the heat of the moment and that he sends Aaron a personal apology.

Actors, as I’m sure many of us know from experience, are consistently paid more to work on network television than they are to work in cable. I bet that even a major star like Sterling K. Brown makes a hell of a lot more money for “This Is Us” than he did for “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” and the discrepancy is only going to grow more obvious as the residuals come in.

Revned’s assessment of this situation strikes me as clear-headed and fair as well.

I agree that his argument as apples and oranges. Keep in mind that HAMILTON was not filmed for cable - it was filmed for theatrical release. Its on cable because theatres are closed. Revenue wise, you can join Disney+ for $6.99, and watch Hamilton every day, multiple times, for a month - your whole household + friends if they are Covid free. In a movie theatre your family of four would have paid $50-60 to see. On Disney + $6.99 - giving you access to all the other Disney content online. So that this could end up as a significant loser for Disney. I paid $6.99 for the month, watched Hamilton twice, then ab 8 part Star Wars TV Series, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, a bunch of cartoons, and on and on. All for that $6.99

very good catch. I am not weeping for Disney though. It looks like they will retain a percentage of the new subscribers that probably justifies it. Just as on Broadway, the economic model for Disney is sui generis.

Sometimes I think actors in interviews are their own worst enemy. There was an interview with Andrew Rannells where he belittled the singers at Marie’s Crisis and it made me not want to see him again. Same here with Odom, if someone had said I want to earn the same as that Black Boy there would have been an outcry and rightfully so. I completely agree with comments pointing out the difference in preparation for that payment and don’t believe it would at all have been based on race. Would Lin have stood for that to be happening, I am certain that’s a big No!!
