The Disney+ release on July 3 vaulted the cast album up to a new peak at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, the album chart for all genres, not just cast albums. The sales have continued to be strong, with the album currently at No. 4. That's an indication that people are still watching. Most chart action from a single event, such as a single TV broadcast, or a singer's death, results in a 1 or 2 week spike.
In other music chart news, Alanis Morissette's new album contains her version of "Smiling," one of the new songs in Jagged Little Pill. The album debuted at No. 16. I like Alanis's version of Smiling more than Elizabeth Stanley's, particularly the live version. Stanley's version is prettier, and I think the song benefits from Alanis's more raw take on it.
By the way, I think the cover art for Morissette's album is horrible. |
