The Muny's "Summer Variety Hour" - This Thursday Night Only
Posted by: musicalsfan 06:30 pm EDT 08/18/20

In place of its usual seven show summer season, The Muny in St Louis has been producing a SUMMER VARIETY HOUR for the past five weeks, and it's been terrific. The last of their five shows happened last night and will be repeated this Thursday (8/20). I highly recommend watching it.

The highlights for me -
A video of Beth Leavel's "Rose's Turn" from their 2018 production of GYPSY
A Zoom performance by this year's Muny Teens graduating class singing "Our Time" from MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG
A video clip of the theater's unique approach to "At The Ballet" from A CHORUS LINE in 2017
Richard Riaz Yoder's "Broadway Melody" tap dance

The "Broadway Melody" dance was recently filmed during the day, and in addition to the excellent dancing and choreography, it provides a virtual tour of the theater, as the video travels from the outdoor stage and backstage, to dressing rooms, ticket office, and outdoor rehearsal spaces, taking in the theater's beautiful natural surroundings and its stunning architecture. It's certainly one of the most beautiful and classiest looking theaters in the country.

The Thursday night show is easy to access. Just go to YouTube at or shortly before 8:15 Central time (9:15 Eastern, 6:15 Pacific) and enter "Muny TV". It should come up first and second in the list on the left. You have 2 options - with or without Closed Captioning/Audio Description. This Thursday live is the last chance to see this last performance of their summer online performances. It won't be available after that.

And yes, I'm originally from St Louis and have been a big Muny fan for decades, beginning with watching shows as a child and teen from the 11,000-seat theater's nightly 1,500 free seats.
