| I was able to get in. The website says that Newsies is streaming on Disney+ as well, so another way they are trying to get the Hamilton fans to stick to the subscription! It's not clear whether the Disney+ version has the added material, though. | |

| I had not seen Newsies since shortly after its Broadway opening in 2012, and it was great to revisit the show. Because of the structure of the show, the ensemble is almost all young men in their early-to-mid-20s, which allows the choreography to have an athleticism that isn't found in every show. The post-show bonus video reminded me what a phenomenal dancer Ryan Steele was in the show. He really stood out, even among such a talented cast. (spoilers for bonus materials) In terms of the bonus material, there was a pre-show chat with Jeff Calhoun (the director), Jeremy Jordan, and Kara Lindsay, and an intermission chat with Ben Fankhauser and Andrew Keenan-Bolger. Both were fun but not essential viewing. After the show, there was a newly-shot video. There was 50 seconds of Once and For All with Alan Menken and our four cast interviewees. Then about 90 seconds of a version of the dance break from Seize the Day, performed in isolation by about 20 former Newsies. Both were great, but way too short, particularly the dance, which seemed like it was just getting started when it was over. I wish the dance video had been much longer, and I wish they had showed the dancers' faces at some point. The dancers performed in solo without masks, but then they took their bows all at once, with 20 tiny windows and the unidentified dancers all wearing masks. They showed a cast list afterwards, but it would have been interesting to match the name to the dancer. According to Wikipedia, the reprise of The Bottom Line has a line that is sung by the Mayor on the cast recording but sung by Bunsen on the tour (and in this version). Does anyone know why the change? |

| MikeM, thanks for the report. I tried the Playbill link again and it worked, so I got to see the show again and all of this extra footage. As I've said before, this is one of the best filmed stage musicals I've ever seen. I'm so happy it captures the show's exciting songs and dances so well. Kudos to director Jeff Calhoun, choreographer Christopher Gattelli and Brett Sullivan, who directed this live capture. It's so wonderful to have the show's original leads recreating their roles for posterity. ''Newsies'' wouldn't be ''Newsies'' without Jeremy, Kara, Ben and Andrew. And the way they shot the dances (with overhead angles here and there) was wonderful. Glad to see all the dynamic dancers ID'd in the curtain call! As for the bonus footage, it was great to see Ryan Steele again; he also dazzled, starring in the national tour of ''An American in Paris.'' Also among the group: Nico Greetham, who did ''Newsies'' on Broadway and tour, and co-starred in ''Power Rangers Ninja Steel.'' |

| Sorry, the bows were 2 batches of 12 windows each. Still too small to see anything. | |

| Another thing that viewing the show made clear is that the designation of Ben Fankhauser, who plays Davey, in the Leading category for the Tonys is completely absurd. There is no way that is a leading role. The show clearly revolves around Jeremy Jordan's character. Davey doesn't have a solo song (or even more than just a few lines here and there), nor does he have a dance solo. He has no real character arc or any significant subplot. It is a very fine Featured role, but putting him in the Leading category is a total head-scratcher. | |

| MikeM, I couldn't agree more. Davey's a fine Featured role, and Ben Fankhauser frankly deserved a Tony nomination in that category. He had great chemistry with Jeremy Jordan, and I loved how he sang the beginning section of ''Seize the Day,'' rallying the troops. But there's no way Davey was a leading role. I even once asked Ben about this Tony ruling, and he was similarly baffled. (It's a little more understandable why Kara Lindsay was put up for Leading, but I also think that's closer to a Featured role.) |

| I couldn't get in. I tried to download something called WinZip and it didn't work for me. A friend of mine also had the same problem. I'd love to know if there was anything noteworthy or ''newsy'' in the bonus material. I'm guessing it hasn't been included at Disney +. |

| I haven't looked at this, but WinZip should have absolutely nothing to do with it. That must have been a cleverly-placed ad that had no connection to anything. | |
