MikeM, I couldn't agree more. Davey's a fine Featured role, and Ben Fankhauser frankly deserved a Tony nomination in that category.

He had great chemistry with Jeremy Jordan, and I loved how he sang the beginning section of ''Seize the Day,'' rallying the troops.

But there's no way Davey was a leading role. I even once asked Ben about this Tony ruling, and he was similarly baffled.

(It's a little more understandable why Kara Lindsay was put up for Leading, but I also think that's closer to a Featured role.)

Wayman, thanks for your confirmation that it wasn't Fankhauser's idea (and presumably, not Newsies's idea, either, since I think Fankhauser would have known about it). It would have been strange for either Fankhauser and/or the production to have wanted the category bump, but the production petitioning for it would have made it understandable, at least.

I agree with what you are saying about Kara Lindsay. She got put in Leading because it's the largest female role, but it's a Featured role in my opinion. But I think it's justifiable to put her in Lead, while I don't feel that is the case with Fankhauser.
