| First of all, I have no recollection of what you have posted in the past. S/F apparently has a memory that can run circles around mine. :-) TBH with few exceptions I tend to pay attention to what is said, not who said it. I'm a little unclear on what you are saying now. Do you seriously think that producers are spending millions of dollars on these two shows (this one and the NBC) for closure or to give Danny Burstein or some other actor a trophy? The notion that "it has nothing to do with marketing" is both factually incorrect and painfully naive. So I am wondering if that's really what you meant or were you perhaps simply saying that you think they are wasting the money by marketing shows that (you don't think) will come back (or have some other life). That is something I would not agree with, but it is not an unreasonable argument. The "nothing" that is being marketed by all this has several components. First, folks think they can raise the future profile of their shows. Second, they think they can monetize awards if they win them. (And in this regard note that a later combined awards for '19-'21 would translate into half as many awards, and if there is one thing we know about people, it is that they love winning awards.) Third, there is the matter of the broader brand, i.e., Live Broadway. Folks are scared shitless that all of this online stuff is helping people forget why they ever paid hundreds of dollars to sit in cramped seats to watch shows. I guarantee you that you will hear that sales pitch on these shows. I know we debate this "effect" here (and maybe you are a part of that too, I don't recall), but there is no debate that there are many producers and landlords who think this is cause for concern. |

| There is nothing to pitch? There is no live theater and won't be for a long time. How does a digital zoom-like awards show get people excited about seeing live theater? | |
