Of course, under the current ridiculous EMMY rules and the current Grammy rules it is VERY easy to imagine Joel Grey having done it for Cabaret now that principle soloists on cast albums get the Grammy in addition to the producers. And he very likely could have won an Emmy for a performance from Cabaret on a talk show.

The Grammys were pretty lax about defining those ''principal artists'' on a cast album. ''Dear Evan Hansen'' listed 8 performers; ''Hamilton,'' 10.

They seemed to have tightened that: Only 5 ''principal artists'' were listed from ''Hadestown,'' ''Moulin Rouge!,'' ''Ain't Too Proud'' and ''Oklahoma!''

And I'm glad the Daytime Emmys dumped that Musical Performance category. Doing promo on a talk show isn't worthy of TV's highest award.
