In reply to: Is 2020 the Tony's worst year for Best Musical (or at least Best Original Score) since 1995? - DanielVincent 07:18 pm EDT 08/25/20

As I noted in the article I posted today (see thread below), the Best Score category could be populated—should they choose to keep it—with music from straight plays. I believe The Inheritance, Slave Play, The Sound Inside, The Rose Tattoo, Sea Wall/A Life and The Height of the Storm would all be eligible.

True, but...

...it's very hard for me to imagine the scores from any of those productions (sans The Height of the Storm, which I did not see) being worthy of a win.

All heartfelt appreciations and opinions aside --it's just plain SAD.

Sad, but perhaps cyclical. In 1995, there was one traditional song score: ''Sunset Blvd.'' In 2010, there were two: ''Memphis,'' ''The Addams Family.''

If COVID-19 hadn't cut this season short, the other original song scores would've been: ''Diana,'' ''Flying Over Sunset,'' ''Mrs. Doubtfire'' and ''Six.''
