| But I guess there was nothing stopping Trump last night from having the aria from Puccini's TURANDOT performed live by NY native Christopher Macchio as the RNC's finale. I've always thought the aria's lush triumphalism to be rather lubricious but its overuse out of context in movies and ads isn't really its fault. Still, perhaps Prince Calaf is kind of smarmy in his heroism, he's going to unfreeze the ice queen by groping his way to the victorious dawn. |

| Important distinction - she asked that Pavarotti's recording of "Nessun Dorma" not be used. Not the music itself. (She would have no right to request the latter.) But in this case, if this guy was the best the GOP could find (ouch)...well, that says a lot. |

| So if you only believe in Socialism and Marxism are you allowed to have that aria performed. Free speech and tolerance....only if you agree...otherwise shut it down? | |

| But if the Puccini estate were to give the rights to use it, I would have no problem with a Trump supporter singing it...like say Ted Nugent, Kid Rock or Kanye. | |

| The widow is exercising free speech. An artist (or his heirs) cannot be forced to have his expression used in a way he (or they) disapprove of. If the widow only wants serial killers or circus clowns to have the right to use the recording, she can. Free speech guarantees her right to free expression---or silence if she chooses. This is a pretty basic American---and capitalist--value. But with so many people knocking American values and capitalism I am not surprised that someone objects to the concept intellectual/artistic property. I am surprised to see someone arguing against free speech while claiming to argue for it. That was a pretty neat trick. |

| So we're at the point where believing in the rule of law has become the same as believing in Socialism *and* Marxism (which are not the same thing). Considering that the Right Wing propaganda news media is now celebrating a teenage murderer and encouraging Americans to actively take up arms against protesters, I'm not surprised to see such a wildly deranged point of view. | |

|
| Two points: 1. Being anti-fascist does not equate with socialism and marxism. 2. Pavorotti (and his family) lived through Mussolini. They knew and know a thing or two about fascism that perhaps you don't. |

| ...otherwise shut it down? No, I'm more of a protest and boycott rather than shut down, burn down or shoot to kill kind of Socialist and Marxist. |

| Nessun Dorma is still copyright protected, so that the Puccini estate could forbid its use. The earliest that copyright would expire on this work is April 2022 - depends on when copyright was filed. Research said 2024. You can't use the recording without permission of copyright holder of recording. You can't hire some right wing tenor to sing it at a Trump rally, without getting a license from the Puccini estate. | |
