| The Tonys have made the correct decision here. If I remember correctly, the 2007 revival of Grease got very negative reviews but was nominated for Best Revival because there were only 4 eligible shows. A similar thing happened with the 2006 revival of The Threepenny Opera (although that show also got a nomination for Jim Dale). Those decisions were heavily criticized at the time. It would seem a bit absurd for The Lightning Thief to get 8 nominations, ordinarily a very large haul, just for existing. I don't think it will be completely shut out, though. I think Chris McCarrell will be nominated alongside Aaron Tveit. And it has a decent chance of getting nominated for Best Score. |
