In this case, I think by Broadway standards, neither the score nor book were very good. Shows are not (usually) nominated just to fill the largest number of nomination slots possible. I don' believe the score will be nominated, its the only original score, and it could win by default.
It brings up an interesting point. There are around 850 voters (i happen to be one). If the score of LIGHTNING THIEF was the sole nominee for best score, let's say it got 60 votes - or even 200 votes - out of 850 voters who saw the show. Would it win the Tony when 650 voters chose not to vote. An interesting question. |
