| And like any revival, it needs a gimmick. Big star (like Linda ronstadt at the height of her career), or actors playing instruments or making it dark (like OK!). There’s really only 3 good operettas: mikado (redone as Hot Mikado) ; hms pinafore and penzance. And I think the bridge between opera and broadway is a shaky one at best. The la Boheme opera on broadway flopped in 2003. It had been 55 years since the last revival. I love the mikado but even I wouldn’t pay $200 plus to see it on broadway. |
