| Smart casting. And since Evan will be, ahem, not exactly 16ish, Moore's more mature* single mom will be in sync. Mainly, Moore's gravitas as a film actor will only enhance this iteration of the story. *at 59, probably 60 when she begins filming, she mirrors many women who might've had a child in her 30s; I'm anticipating "she's too old" |

| Interesting math you're employing... in what world did a 60 year old have her 17 year old son in her 30s? I'm not gonna say Moore is "too old" per se or that her actual age can't work for the role even, or that she can't read younger or be made to... but your math is a bit bonkers. |

| great for box office (love her), bad for musicals. maybe her songs will be turned into monologues? singing fails. |

| I thought her character sang more, but according to ibdb, she only sings in the opening number, Good for You, and So Big/So Small. The last two might not be technically hard sings, so I'm crossing my fingers her voice is good enough. I've never liked the opening number, and I'm hoping it's going to get ditched for the film. Aside from the fact that the staging strongly mirrors the opening number of Next to Normal, it doesn't really set the stage right for the rest of the show in my opinion. The show would be better off if they just skipped over it IMO. |

| I do think they will cut the song for movie - one of the weakest in the score, and I agree it's a weird way to start the show. But I don't actually think it mirrors the opening of N2N in any notable way. I absolutely think the movie will want the singing to start with "Waving Through a Window". I wouldn't be surprised if they move "Anybody Have a Map" to the second song, in a new scene of the moms trying to communicate with the kids.. after all, Amy Adams CAN sing and that character has even less to sing than Evan's mom without cutting one of the song's she's in. If it weren't for Requiem including Conor's parents so importantly, and "So Big, So Small" i would suggest they call all the parents singing and just have the kids sing. But i don't think that's the answer or what they'll do. But let's also not forget that they will DEFINITELY write a new song for the movie so they can get GG and Oscar noms for it, and give fans more reason to buy the film soundtrack. That will likely include a new song for Moore/Adams, and perhaps a rewrite of the dad's often maligned baseball glove song. Or more for Ben or Connor etc. |

| The opening number -- not especially winning anyway -- could feel arch on screen, the self-awareness of the characters singing mulled thoughts as they go about chores, at least in my memory of the show. But it has parts for two stars, Adams (who sings nicely) and Moore (who can probably pull it off). One of my issues with the musical is how much Evan carries the score. So one challenge will be making the whole piece feel fully musicalized. Otherwise, it's a scripted story that pauses more often than not for the Platt vocals (he sings in 12 numbers; 7-8 are solos or songs he carries). Maybe that's fine, but it's not Funny Girl. | |

| It seems like a lot of people are jumping to the conclusion that she can't sing, but perhaps she'll be more in the Toni Collette category whose musical talents were largely unknown until she did The Wild Party. (Toni would have been an excellent choice, but, of course, she's not as big of a name as Moore.) | |

| Bel Canto was about an opera singer. So even if Moore can sing, she might not be classically trained in opera techniques. In a film about an opera singer it would make sense to get someone who actually is an opera singer. | |

| She can pull off the Evan songs. She only has to do them in a studio, not eight times a week. I suspect she'll nail the big solo in act two. She's a brilliant actor. | |
