| I saw the reading but hadn’t seen it onstage. I wasn’t as taken as Brantley was with the play—though I’ll admit I somehow (?) missed a key piece of stage direction/narration at the very top that would have been impossible to overlook onstage. (The first image is of a man soaked in blood. I didn’t catch that part, so much of the suspense of that went over my head.) I only learned about it in reading the review in the Times later. That minor point aside, I thought it was a bit of a wallow in the seamy, dark side of these characters (which is fine), but ultimately without much of a point or a reason (which is not). I thought all the naturalistic dunk in despair added up to very little. The performances were excellent, particularly those of Ed Harris and Bill Pullman. |

| Brantley reviewed the online reading? I didn't realize readings were being critiqued. | |

| The Times has been reviewing select online theatre offerings ever since this started all those months ago. Link to "The Jacksonian" review is below. |

| I'm not sure to whom you're referring, but the chief television critic of the Times is James Poniewozik, and he is still very much employed. | |

| 1. The person who wrote and edited that was not a reviewer which is what you said. 2. Just because a particular feature is eliminated does not mean that the folks who wrote and edited it were fired. That's not how it works at the Times (or many other places). 3. Ben has a job that is secure but yes people have to do something to continue to provide content. That's what papers do. 4. Ben does what he is assigned after discussion with his editor. |
