I'm not sure to whom you're referring, but the chief television critic of the Times is James Poniewozik, and he is still very much employed.

The daily television page in the NYTIMES was discontinuted.....it featured comments about notable programs.....somebody wrote that so obviously someone was fired.

1. The person who wrote and edited that was not a reviewer which is what you said.
2. Just because a particular feature is eliminated does not mean that the folks who wrote and edited it were fired. That's not how it works at the Times (or many other places).
3. Ben has a job that is secure but yes people have to do something to continue to provide content. That's what papers do.
4. Ben does what he is assigned after discussion with his editor.
