Funny you should say that. Back in the eighties, I had tickets to see BALLROOM in its west coast premiere at Long Beach's Terrace Theatre starring Tyne Daly. It was announced that morning that Ms. Daly was not feeling well and probably would not be appearing in the show that day. Since I had already seen the show with Ms. Louden, I didn't really want to see Daly's stand-by. I called the box office and asked if there was any update on Daly's health. She replied no but Lanie Kazan had been rehearsing non-stop and would be appearing in Daly's place. Needless to say, I was on my way making the trip from Los Angeles to Long Beach being a big fan of Ms. Kazan's. As it happens in the theatre, Ms. Daly had a miraculous recovery and bye-bye Lanie. It was the first time I was disappointed the announced star was in the show. Btw, Daly was wonderful in the role. But in my head, I can still hear Lanie's husky voice as she builds up to the finale of FIFTY PERCENT.
