I have to say--"Making Porn" was unquestionably the single worst production I have paid to see in forty years of theatre-going in NYC. The writing was witless, the directing, inept, and the acting below the most amateurish community theatre I can imagine (and I have seen both excellent and unfortunate community theatre productions--so this is not a slam on the work such organizations do--I am grateful for their existence). To add insult to injury, the night we saw the show, the actor usually starring as the "big-time" porn actor was out and his understudy stepped in--with neither the acting credentials nor the other bonafides needed to play such a role convincingly (the usual actor may not have gone to Julliard either, but he was a genuine porn actor, so at least would have brought some verite to the performance!).
I miss live theatre as much as anyone, but if this is what's available, I'll stick to watching John Michael Higgins host "America Says" on The Game Show Network and conjure up fond memories of him in the title role so many decades ago in Paul Rudnick's "Jeffrey."
