| Broadway's First Digital Soap Opera starring ALEX BRIGHTMAN, ARIANA DEBOSE, ANDREW BARTH FELDMAN, JAMES MONROE IGLEHART, ILANA LEVINE, LESLI MARGHERITA, MAURICIO MARTINEZ, ASHLEY PARK, GEORGE SALAZAR, SARAH STILES, MICHAEL URIE and LILLIAS WHITE Releases Episode II Listen NOW at BPN.FM/ATCR NEW YORK, NY: Listen today to Episode II of the Broadway Podcast Network original Soap Opera, AS THE CURTAIN RISES . Written by Dori Berinstein (CEO Broadway Podcast Network, The Prom, Legally Blonde) and Mark Peikert (former Editor in Chief Playbill), AS THE CURTAIN RISES takes you on a never before behind the scenes look at the drama behind the most dramatic business in the world. Produced and released exclusively by Broadway Podcast Network the second episode of AS THE CURTAIN RISES drops today Thursday, October 29 wherever you listen to your favorite podcasts and www.BPN.FM/ATCR . The next two episodes of the on-going series will be released subsequent Thursdays, with more coming soon after. After the 'Broadway Disher' leaks news of a top secret, in-the-works, new mega musical, the Broadway community goes off-the-charts batty. Top-of-their-game Broadway Producers Cheryl Philips and Steve Jones, arch enemies, pounce. Who will get the rights? Will way-out-of-their-comfort-zone creators Kaye and Bobby manage to deliver a draft of the show before their marriage implodes? Will Director/Choreographer Zoey Taylor send the show's budget into a free fall with her wildly ambitious vision? Will Broadway Diva Emma-Olivia get a Schmackery's cookie (with Sprinkles) named in her honor? Will newbie Agent Maxwell Fernsby step into his new big shoes? And will Science Consultant Andrew Barth Feldman protect the integrity and authenticity of the in-the-works mega musical, before he needs to leave this top secret show to star in a new Broadway musical? The drama on stage pales in comparison to the drama behind the curtain…. You don't want to miss this. Alex Brightman (Tony Award-Nominee Beetlejuice) as the Narrator Snarky….opinionated….our Narrator is in the middle of it all. He likes it that way… Ariana Debose (The Prom Film, Hamilton, Summer) as Zoey Taylor Director-choreographer of wildly imaginative musicals and innovative immersive experiences. Zoey can easily get swept up in innovation, special f/x and leans heavily into the 'spectacle'. Her pizzazzy work sometimes disguises thin books and weak scores, Zoey's productions sometimes belie her rigorous training and true grasp of dramaturge. Very few in the 'commercial' theatrical space pay much attention to her avant garde work Off-Broadway and regionally, so no one really knows what Zoey is truly capable of. While she is fiercely supportive of her collaborators, and almost relentlessly peppy and positive, Zoey is entirely no-nonsense when it comes to her hard-core note sessions. This often takes her collaborators by surprise. Andrew Barth Feldman (Dear Evan Hansen) as "himself" Broadway Star, Science Geek and Science Consultant to Bobby and Kay as they create their not-really Avatar masterpiece. Andrew Barth Feldman received a Master's Degree in Interstellar BioDiversity and Climate Dynamics from Yale, while he starred in Dear Evan Hansen. James Monroe Iglehart (Tony Award-winner Aladdin) as Steve Jones A legendary ruthless producer who is almost incapable of empathy and works hard to live down to people's expectations of underhanded, conniving theatrics. Borderline sociopathic? He takes great delight in wading into awkward social situations and watching people flail in them. But he also has great taste, and he gets incredible results. The guy has power and knows how to wield it. Lesli Margherita (Matilda the Musical) as Broadway Texter Always in-the-know before ANYONE, this fearsome, social media creature gleefully shares everything she hears while good-naturedly (or not) trying to leverage it to achieve the next level of her career. Leaves Michael Riedel in the dust. Ashley Park (Netflix's Emily in Paris, Tony Award-Nominee Mean Girls) and Michael Urie (Grand Horizons) as Kaye and Bobby Kaye Fields and Bobby Kerns and have been writing musicals together for the last 10 years. They are also married. All critically acclaimed and lauded with honors, yet all financial failures. Their most recent production, The Last Cigar, netted them Tony Awards for book and score, as well as Best Musical. They can thank their producer, Steve Jones, for that, if they were ever inclined to speak to him again. Now they have a very special new musical in early stage development, one they intend to handle with very special care, far away from the Broadway spotlight. Of course, things don't always go as planned, do they? Kaye is the practical one. She asks all the right questions and works tirelessly to deliver the best work she can. Bobby is more emotional.Things like tans and Bahamas boondoggles occasionally get in the way of his otherwise smart thinking. George Salazar (Be More Chill) as Maxwell Fernsby A newly hired very junior agent at CAAA, good-natured Maxwell has just been promoted to fill in for his boss, Charles, whose dimpleplasty has gone seriously awry. Maxwell, very perky, shines when it comes to taking care of clients with gourmet food baskets and hard-to-get restaurant reservations, but he is way out of his depth when it comes to negotiating contracts and, well actually being an agent. In fact, he has little to no understanding of the Broadway players, or his own clients, for that matter. But does he?? Could be the tiger is waiting for the right moment to pounce. Just wait. Sarah Stiles (Tony Award-Nominee Tootsie, Hand to God) as Emma-Olivia The Broadway diva of the moment, a throwback to the days when starring in musicals was enough to make you a national celebrity. Unfortunately, she's read too much of her own press, and, coupled with her unmistakable talent, has become a walking nightmare. She and Steve Jones get along well enough, both recognizing a fellow traveler in one another. But the minute her talent slips or his finances take a hit, they will never speak again. Is this Diva worth the drama off-stage? Lillias White (Tony Award-Winner The Life) as Cheryl Phillips A fabulous producer whose good taste is legendary, Cheryl is a believer in supporting the artists with whom she works-to a point. She'll calmly pull the plug if she sees that there's no financial or artistic reward in the offing. She's fierce, focused on commercial success, but has a heart, unlike her Avvatar Co-Producing Partner, the notorious Steve Jones. Hopefully, Cheryl will manage through the 'Steve' of it all without loosing her mind!! With special appearances by Matt Britten (CEO Broadway Briefing), David Korins (Set Designer), Natasha Katz (Lighting Designer), Alex Lacamoire (Music Director/ Arranger), Lynn Nottage (Playwright/Lyricist) and Jordan Roth (Producer and President, Jujamcyn Theatres). AS THE CURTAIN RISES is produced by Dori Berinstein and Alan Seales and the Broadway Podcast Network (Brittany Bigelow, Yoanna Nikolova, Katie Rosin, Cyndy Schatz, Beatriz Westby) and Executive Produced by Liz Armstrong. The Soap Opera is edited and sound designed by Bart Fasbender, Avvatar music by Matthew Sklar, sound engineering by Alan Seales, banshee wrangling by Bill Berloni and directed by Dori Berinstein. AS THE CURTAIN RISES was created and recorded entirely in Quarantine. This Broadway Soap Opera celebrates and supports The Actor's Fund and the BPN Frontline Worker Initiative which you can find at: Bpn.fm/frontlineworkers Website: https://broadwaypodcastnetwork.com/ Instagram: @asthecurtainrises The Podcast is be Available on Apple/iTunes, Spotify, Stitcher, iHeart, TuneIn, Deezer, Player.FM, Pocket Cast, Podcast Addict and everywhere else you listen to podcasts BIOGRAPHIES Dori Berinstein (writer/director/producer) is not a TV Soap Opera aficionado. Rather, Dori's nirvana is living inside the reliably dramatic, real-life Soap Opera that exists behind-the-curtain on Broadway and in Film, where the drama backstage is often just as thrilling as the drama on stage or on screen. Consequently, Dori is often found producing Broadway Shows (The Prom, Legally Blonde, etc), directing films about Broadway (ShowBusiness: The Road To Broadway, Carol Channing: Larger Than Life, etc.) or producing Broadway shows as films (The Prom). She very much loves celebrating all this spectacular drama with her Lights of Broadway Show Card partner, artist extraordinaire, Justin 'Squigs' Robertson. Mark Peikert (writer), when Mark Peikert was a little boy, he'd take one bite out of an apple and then pretend to faint, like Snow White. Is it any wonder he ultimately combined Broadway and soap operas into As the Curtain Rises, in between stints as a writer and editor for publications including Town & Country, Backstage, and Out?
