The French are the most succint ... 'Merde!' does it all. As it does.

But the most enchanting is the Italian version: "In bocca al lupo" - 'In the wolf's mouth' - its used in Italy for theatre - and all other times to wish someone well. There is also an answer that one can give in Italian -"crepi il lupo" which is literally 'may the wolf die'. The origins of the Italian phrase is known - it comes originally from hunting - wishing you NOT to end up in the wolf's mouth.
