It might have been an enjoyable film if they basically did one thing -- substitute another character for the one written for and played by Robert De Niro. He's a total drag and like a horror movie character inserted into a light MGM musical. Liza's great, and her big numbers are terrific. He'd be better substituted in "Meet Me in St. Louis" for the man Tootie (Margaret O'Brien) throws flour on during the Halloween sequence. Scary.
