| An honest and not at all rhetorical question. Am I alone in my reaction to much or dare I say all of Green's writing that there is some kind of unusual, angry, hysterical (read: not funny) unearned arrogance (earned or not, always unpleasant) even when he admires something? Am I alone in finding that he leaves such an unpleasant aftertaste no matter what he's writing about? I've wanted to admire and respect his output, but I am afraid I just can't. Besides being strangely angry no matter what he's saying, from a technical standpoint, he has a tendency to pass opinion off as fact, and pummels away as he does. For me he makes for such an unpleasant read. And yes, the logical would be to simply not read him, but it is not as if NYT is teeming with so much theatrical output, that he can be avoided completely. I wonder if it is me, or are there others who feel similarly. |
