| Aw, back at ya for someone who appreciates and loves this film! I can imagine a great improv exercise for an acting class -- to watch the film and then improvise what happens when Catherine Deneuve enters that truck at the end (and I'm not spoiling it here by revealing the circumstances). Of course, the way the film does it is just sublime, leaving it to our imagination what must be a remarkable scene of recognition ensuing. It's also such a wonderful musical fantasy with a great score by Michel Legrand and a marvelous cast, plus they painted most of the city of Rochefort to make the film even more colorful for director Jacques Demy's beautiful vision as director. Of course, this and the terrific (but not feel-good ultimately) "Umbrellas of Cherbourg" were inspirations for "La La Land" a few years ago, a film nowhere near the level of these films, but nice to see Demy's influence is still with us. |
