As I said before I relearned how strong the book is. All the lovely images throughout regarding changing of seasons and life's movement really put it into a class few musical theater books can claim. Then the score, also world class, "Try to Remember," "Soon its Gonna Rain," "They Were You" all well known outside of the show and for me "This Plum is Too Ripe" is so strong both as a song and to set the second act in motion. It is definitely on my short list of greatest musicals every written as well as my list of favorite musicals, not always the same. For example, no question My Fair Lady is one of the greatest ever written but I just don't adore it, whereas I adore The Most Happy Fella but acknowledge that the same composer's Guys and Dolls is better over all, not that I don't adore G & D. I am not sure it is obscure, just not current. If someone mounts a good production off broadway in the near future it will regain its popularity in regional and community theater.
