Considering that the Times never ran the by-all-accounts explosive sexual harassment exposé that would have implicated many of the major Broadway directors, I would never underestimate the power Broadway producers have at the Grey Lady.
That said, I don't share the OP's outrage over the photo choice. But I wouldn't discount the possibility that Rudin made a phone call.
