| I never said that the requirements for a score for a play are lesser than the score for a musical. I said the requirements for both types of scores are different and it should be acknowledged that the award should be “best score for a play” and “best score for a musical.” I don’t understand how you thought that meant one was lesser. | |

| Why would you need a disclaimer on this year's awards if it isn't understood to be lesser? In past years plays have sometimes competed for best score. This year, the only eligible scores were from plays, so the category is fully made up of those. What kind of disclaimer is needed? |

| Perhaps my use of the word "disclaimer" is wrong. What I said in the beginning is that there should be two categories: "Best Score for a Play" and "Best Score for a Musical." | |

| Okay. And this year there are no eligible musicals, so that category wouldn't exist anyway. So what bugs you is that a play will take the award for Best Score without the disclaimer that it's Best Score of a Play. It sounds like you definitely do think that's a lesser accomplishment. Just weird that you don't claim that opinion, when it's the only way what you're saying makes sense. |

| Wasn't The Lightning Thief eligible? Hard to remember, it seems like ages ago... | |

| Yes, Rob Rokicki's score to ''The Lightning Thief'' was the only eligible score from a musical in this COVID-shortened Broadway season. Had it not been for the virus, I imagine it might've competed for Best Score, alongside ''Flying Over Sunset,'' ''Mrs. Doubtfire'' and ''Six.'' I still think ''The Lightning Thief'' got a raw deal. I enjoyed a number of its tunes, like ''Bring on the Monsters'' and ''Good Kid.'' It was worthy of a nomination, especially compared to a number of Tony-nominated scores I could name. ''Merlin,'' anyone? ''Metro''? ''Copperfield''? ''The News''? I also believe Chris McCarrell and Ryan Knowles gave award-caliber performances in ''The Lightning Thief'' that deserved Tony recognition. By the way, since 1980, the Drama Desks have given out a separate award for Music of a Play (in addition to Lyrics and Music of a Musical). |

| If that’s what you want to believe, then believe it. I never said it’s a lesser accomplishment, just different, and that difference should be recognized. | |
