| As per Charlotte St. Martin, December is no longer a goal. “'We don’t have a decision date yet,” St. Martin said in a discussion with SiriusXM host Julie James. “'Since we’re not opening in March, we have more planning time'." Sounds like they want to move until just before the theatres reopen, whenever that will be. | |

| Shows usually only have a bump for a few weeks at most unless they win some big awards. But this delay is really proof that the awards is not honoring the winners but lining the pockets of producers. I get that during a normal year the award ceremony is expensive and you do have to cater to producers to fund it. But now, It can be done rather cheaply on line and honor the nominees. | |

| First of all, yes, the awards (in any year) are about marketing first and foremost. Secondly, I think the point is that they do not want to do this "rather cheaply" because that defeats the purpose. Finally, it is well to remember that St. Martin has been clueless throughout the pandemic and has done the League more harm than good. She is also out of the loop. | |

| I wish I was clueless enough (as Charlotte is) to get a $550,000+ a year job - in an industry I know nothing about, and have learned nothing about. When I posed a difficult question a few years back, she invited me for a $200+ lunch on the East Side, which, of course, my League dues paid for. And email or phone call would have sufficed. | |

| I do not begrudge the money, but I do begrudge the lack of value in this case. Jed B was also from a marketing background but he grew up in this business and knew it inside out (which is not to say that I did not also have issues with him). | |

| This issue highlights the difference between the Tonys and the Oscars. When people win an Oscar, they say that it is meaningful because they are recognized by their peers. There is an actors' branch, a cinematographers' branch, etc. Similar setup for the Grammys - to be eligible to vote, you have to have been involved in a certain number of commercially available recordings in any of a number of different capacities. But the Tonys are basically voted on and run by the producers. There are others in small numbers in the voting mix, but the award is more like film's Producers Guild Award than the Oscars. It's not really a peer award. So it is inevitable that it is set up to the benefit of the producers. They are the ones running the show, not the theater community as a whole. ( I don't know how you qualify to vote on the Emmys. Is it more like the Oscars or the Tonys?) |

| The Emmys are more like the Oscars, except I feel like they're even more of a peer award. In the Oscars, the various disciplines (acting, writing, sound, etc.) vote in the nominations round, but the full membership can vote in most categories in the vote for the actual awards. At the Emmys, both the nominations and final voting rounds are discipline-based. Other than the program awards (Comedy Series, Drama Series, Variety Series, etc.), where all members can vote. | |

| A bigger difference to me is that a movie, once released, is out there, somewhere for everyone to see. There isn't a small window for marketing, as there is for the Tonys, where eligible titles may already be gone forever, and right now, there's nothing to market. | |
