Did any of the Beatles ever consider writing a musical, or start work on one, for either Broadway or the West End?

I seem to recall reading that Joe Orton had wriiten a screenplay, shortly before his death, of a film "Up Against It" to star the Beatles, which was eventually turned into an off-Broadway musical.

I always wished Paul would write an animated musical.

Couldn't you imagine a McCartney/Disney collab? I wish....

Not the same thing, but Yoko Ono (and I believe also Sean Lennon?) consulted on the development of LENNON.

I don't know if any of the Beatles provided any creative input on BEATLEMANIA?

I always wondered how the Beatles came to record a showtune, like ''Till There Was You'' from Meredith Willson's ''The Music Man.''

Turns out that Paul McCartney first heard Peggy Lee's recording and didn't even realize it was from a Broadway musical back then.

Reportedly, ''Till There Was You'' proved important to the Beatles' career; their recording of it is what got them an audition with EMI.

Paul once said he took John to the "South Pacific" movie when it came out...

... and during the "Twin Soliloquies," when Nellie sang "Wonder how I'd feel...", John said something like "I don't care what the bloody hell they feel, I'm getting out of here!"

Paul McCartney was working on IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE, but that was early this year, and who knows what’s happened to those plans.

I have often wondered why this wasn't musicalized. It to me would seem to be a natural.

Was it musicalized and I just missed it? It certainly did not make it to Broadway if so. Correct me please if I am incorrect.

It's one of my favorite movies, esp. this time of year. AND ESP. THIS YEAR.

There is a version by Sheldon Harnick and Joe Raposo that was done in concert at the Paper Mill a few years back. It may have had a production at the U of Michigan. It dates back to the 80's.

Fascinating tidbit. Thanks for sharing. I'll investigate when I'm snowed in.
