| The Times said Kellogg had played "an uptight debutante-turned-hippie in the original Broadway production." Is Sheila an uptight debutante at any point in the PLAY? Or is this confusing her with the character of Sheila in the MOVIE version (played by Beverly D'Angelo)? The movie changed a lot of the story, characters, who sings what, etc. from the play. I only remember that Sheila in the play is a college student. I think all the "debutante" stuff was added for the movie. |

| I sent them an email, and they actually did something. Sometimes they do. Maybe I wasn't the only person to send an email. Thanks for bringing it up. I hadn't looked at the obit. Even if I had, I don't know that I would have questioned it, although it might have sounded a bit odd to me. It's always good to have less misinformation out there. | |

| Similar from the Variety obituary: In the original 1968 Broadway production of “Hair,” Kellogg played Sheila, who transforms from a debutante into a hippie upon meeting the rest of the group. | |

| Yeah, I think they're basing that on the movie. I'm pretty sure in the play, she doesn't "meet the rest of the group" -- she already knows them. Doesn't she live with Claude and Berger? | |

| The version that opened on Broadway in 1968 was never published or licensed. My understanding is that the published script was an amalgam of the original Off-Broadway version, the Broadway version (possibly including revisions made during the run before the publication in 1969) and material that may never have been performed onstage during the run. While the description of Sheila is surely correct, and it may be that those lines were spoken in 1968, unless someone has a stage manager's script or some other archival evidence, I don't know that there's a way to be sure that those specific lines were spoken in 1968. | |

| Another way would be to check the recollection of someone who was in that production. In normal times, that would be easy enough. | |

| The "second semester/protester" line is sung, not spoken - but I can't be sure if it was in there in '68 or not. If that's even what you were referring to, lol. | |

| Yes, that's what I was referring to, but somehow I was stupidly missing that it's sung, although it's really pretty clear that it's sung. I imagine it was there in 1968 but it's hard to be sure. | |

| Going further down the rabbit hole, the song “Sheila Franklin” rolls right into “I Believe in Love” if I remember correctly. On the more recent releases of the OBC, Melba Moore sings “I Believe in Love,” and I could have sworn it was Sheila’s song. Is this because a) Dionne (played by MM) originally sang the song or b) because the song was recorded later when Moore took over the role of Sheila? The latter is what happened with the OLC album and the subsequent addendum of Fresh Hair later in 1970. | |

| She definitely knows the entire tribe when the show begins. Before her entrance, one of the tribe says”it’s Joan of Arc” and the she is introduced in the show with “Shelia Franklin, second semester NYU and she’s a protester.” There is nothing in the stage show about her being a debutante. The living situation is vague and if I recall correctly different versions of the script imply different things about this...but Claude lives at home with his parents so if she is living with someone it is with Berger. | |
