I wonder if someone confused it with Moore's "I Got Love" from Purlie?

I think they alternated who sang the song in the early days of its run, so maybe there was some question as to who would actually record the album version. Whatever the reason it is clearly Lynn's version on the album, and its inclusion came as a nice surprise to those of us who'd only known the show from its abridged vinyl recording.

I think that the confusion continued about this song because original cast member Lori Davis in her book “Letting Down My Hair” speaks about Melba Moore singing the song and how amazing it was and that the band seemed to play a different accompaniment for her with cool woodwind and brass things. She appeared to be referring to when Melba went on for Lynn and/or briefly replaced her in the role of Sheila. They don’t appear to have alternated who sang the song but when people were out or not able to sing parts of their role but still decided to go on for their scenes, songs were sometimes re-distributed without regards to character. There was apparently a performance that all of the black cast members missed in solidarity after one of the cast members died when some wild substations happened also.

Might that have been after Lamont Washington died in a fire? A very sad part of the production's history.

Apparently, the cast was not given permission to attend his funeral.
