| Although his voice has gotten much better over the years, personally, I think his songwriting has gone in the opposite direction, with rare exceptions here and there. I don't think he'll ever equal his first two albums, his self-titled debut and his sophomore album Poses. Those two albums of chamber pop have some exceptional songcraft, wonderful arrangements by the likes of Jon Brion and his tin pan alley / theatrical influences are very present. |
