| I truly can't imagine a better film of Hello Dolly than the one we have. Even with Bette. But I'd welcome another - i just do not ever see a movie of this being given the kind of budget it would need, and since we already have what I consider a sensational film of the show, I'd rather another musical get film treatment/remake. But I know I'm in the musical-theater-fan-minority of those of us who think the movie is great. I'd actually love to see CZJ do Desiree on film - i think she's a wonderful choice for it (besides that on the night I saw her she was pretty wonderful in the role), and I'm still surprised it didn't happen when she won a Tony for it and was an even bigger deal in movies than she is now. And obviously we need a proper good film of ALNM, for gods sake. And yes Lansbury would be delicious to have in a film of it despite that I dare say at 95 years old *currently*, she is much older than the role seems to ask for and yes, too old for the role now. Even if Desiree were 50 (pushing the limit of her age given the age of her daughter, I think 46-53 is the real outside for her), which CZJ could pull off as she is a glamorous youthful 51 currently, how do you reconcile her mother being 45 years older than her? In a film with close-ups. Applegate is a fun idea for Charlotte, I agree. Not sure if she'd win out for my dream casting in the role but she certainly holds weight at Netflix if that's where we are setting these movies up. ;) |
