It's the script. All of the tedious "backstory" monologues added for the Broadway-based principles fly in the face of what the story is trying to do and they throw the movie off balance.

I'm just glad that Netflix is doing THE PROM and MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM.....at least we will get a taste of Broadway on television,.
