NY State started allowing cinemas open recently....some reopened and some didn't...if people can go to church and restaurants, why not movies? I think the people who wouldn't go probably never went to the movies alot before the pandemic anyway. I always went to see things meant for the big screen. My friends are on the younger side and don't feel ready for a life lived on the sofa in front of the TV indefinitely.

Good lord, think about people who are actually suffering. We've all made sacrifices. It's a temporary situation. It's a movie (which you can see on your TV)

(If you were being sarcastic, good on you.)

Yes you can see movies on your TV...and pray at home, and eat at home and workout at home....I understand huskyital's frustration with Cuomo... Movie theatres have been open in 49 states since August...long after NYC flattened the curve....with no reported COVID cases traced to attendance...Film Forum for one said they fully expected to be open by then...and the irony is one can't see anything there but can walk to the PATH train nearby and see one in NJ....alot of the rules are arbitrary..I actually think Cuomo hasn't re-opened because it is not a priority. Neither he or the mayor seem to care about the arts very much and view entertainment as frivoulous and unecessary...which is how I feel about that "essential" business...alcohol..to each his own.. NYC and LA(the only other city with cinemas still closed) are the major market for the film industry. Without them films will continue to be held back. Imagine if legit theatres all over the US opened but NOT Broadway. Again, I may not be ready to return to moviegoing but many I know are. It's the last affordable form of popular entertainment...theatre, concerts and sports sure aren't.

you can hate on anyone you want but the fact is that New York is a safer place than anywhere else in America (except Maine, Vermont, and Hawaii, IIRC) and has Cuomo's leadership to thank for that. I'm surprised about Westchester and expect that will change shortly. Why? Because that's what the data tells me. As long as lives are saved, and other people don't need to have tubes shoved down their throats to keep them alive, as much as I may love theatre (and like movie theaters sometimes), I'll take Cuomo over what you are peddling every day. To hate Cuomo is to hate data.

There were 53/100k new cases a day in Westchester this past week. Twice as many as in the city even with Staten Island, Breezy Point, the Orthodox areas, included.

And, just for the record, I live in the only state that has never had a mask mandate of any kind and has required all schools to have an in-person options, and yet, our movie theaters remain closed to the public for months.
