well we obviously disagree... on everything except the shame that Channing's Dolly was put to film. But that doesn't mean I don't love Barbra's performance, or Matthau, or the woman who played Irene (if you're implying she never worked again because she was sooo bad no one would go near her, I think that's an insane conclusion to draw), and I don't know what of the film you think is overdirected as an adaptation of the show or why but I don't see a cinema adaptation being done much differently by anyone else. Hello Dolly is not a small intimate musical on stage - it's a fun story with a beautiful lead character, told with a classic show tune score. I think other than a couple scene i would change or adjust, a wonderful job was done on every level.

Honestly how anyone could complain about the Hello Dolly movie when crimes like Mame and A Chorus Line have been perpetrated, i'll never understand.
