Elvira is summoned again with CGI. The trailer makes it look like Coward's play has been goosed up in an effort to convince viewers it is a comedy.
Margaret Rutherford remains the best reason to see the 1945 film. She gives a very funny but oddly convincing portrait of a British spiritualist in the waning days of the empire. Her Madame Arcati is doty but a professional. She brushes off the ridicule of unbelievers, rolls up her sleeves and gets down to work. |
